“Capturing waves crashing, wind with clouds billowing upwards, and trees bent sideways make magical landscapes,” Jefferson said. “We Big Islanders sometimes take these dramatic landscapes for granted, but they always move me. Similarly, Hawaiian hula dancers are grace in motion. Their striking colors and exotic poses delight my eye with their fluid movements. I love the challenge of capturing these actions and moments in watercolor.”

In addition to island landscapes and hula dancers, bamboo and resort golf courses, one of Jefferson’s most popular paintings has been his series of “Geisha Napescapes.” These have more of a graphic design quality to them, and capture the delicacy of the subject in vibrant colors.

Jefferson became an associate member of Living Arts Gallery in July 2012. He favors plein air painting and paints on location with the North Kohala Plein Air Painters, the Watercolor West Hawaii group, and the village artists at Mauna Lani.

Living Arts Gallery is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. More of his paintings can be seen at the gallery website, livingartsgallery.net, or contact the gallery at 889-0739 for more information.
